Optimism is delusional.
Pessimism is a joy killer.
Realism is without hope.
Instead, I choose to be relentlessly optimistic, the basic idea for which comes from Jim Collins book ‘Good to Great’, in which he outlines what he calls the Stockdale Principal (named for Admiral Stockdale).
Relentless optimism is the belief that not only will I overcome and succeed, but I will do so despite and because of the challenges in my way. The challenges will help me grow so that I can succeed with even greater results in the future.
It does not ignore the challenges as optimism does.
It is not void of hope as realism is.
It combines the two, as Jim Collins says, by confronting the brutal facts of my reality while not losing the faith that I will prevail in the end.
